Top-10-Cities

2020 is an opportunity for us to share with you our good travel plans for this year! World exhibitions, museum openings or cities off the beaten track.

Several destinations deserve to be put in the spotlight for the events that will be organized there or simply for their little-known tourist attraction

To help you prepare your future trips (weekends or getaways at the end of the world), we have selected ten cities which, in our opinion, are worth the detour in 2020, whether for a city break during public holidays or for a slightly longer stay. From Dubai to Galway via Tokyo, here they are!

Dubai, the World Expo

Dubai-the-World-Expo

The World Expo will be held from 20 October 2020 in Dubai. The theme will be "Connecting Minds, Building the Future" and 192 country pavilions will be set up to present their projects.

A very large-scale event is therefore expected, like the city hosting the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower, which rises to 829 m! It is, therefore, the ideal year to discover this futuristic destination!

Galway, European Capital of Culture

Galway

Galway will be the European Capital of Culture in 2020. So this is your chance to go green and enjoy the 1,900 events planned near the lakes of Connemara

This city in the west of Ireland has decided to showcase Celtic culture by following its calendar and offering events promoting tourism in Ireland.

Among them, the Baa Baa project which celebrates sheep from both a cultural and environmental point of view!

Cairo, the great Egyptian museum

It's time to go to Cairo and of course to the Giza plateau to visit its monumental pyramid of Cheops, one of the last wonders of the ancient world.

And then, this year will take place the opening of the Great Egyptian Museum in Giza

Work has often been postponed, but we should finally be able to enter this ultramodern museum, the largest in the world devoted to a single civilization, where the famous treasure of Tutankhamun will be located.

Thessaloniki, the unknown

Thessaloniki

The capital of Macedonia is the second-largest city in Greece but is often forgotten in favor of Athens or the Greek islands.

However, Thessaloniki is worth the detour: the atmosphere is relaxed, and you can enjoy the seaside all year round for beautiful walks.

Its old town, Ano Poli, is a charming maze of colorful alleyways that invites you to stroll. There are also many Greco-Roman ruins such as the Agora, dating from the 3rd century BC. A destination to discover!

Chicago, the beautiful American

This year, exit New York: we're going to Chicago! With its many museums such as the Art Institute, the second largest in the United States after the Moma, Chicago delights aesthetes.

Among the postcards of the city, the many skyscrapers that draw its skyline and an iconic aerial subway that one must take at least once! On the shores of Lake Michigan, Chicago deserves a visit during a stay in the American East.

Maastricht, the heart of Europe

Maastricht

It was here in 1992 that the famous Maastricht Treaty was signed. It is for this reason that this city in the Netherlands is generally known.

However, it deserves more than a mention in our history books, as Maastricht is a charming city and one of the oldest in the country, along with Nijmegen.

Its historic center elegantly blends century-old monuments and modern architecture and, on the cultural side, there are interesting museums such as the Bonnefantemuseum.

This year, TEFAF, one of the largest art fairs in the world, will be held in Maastricht.

Tokyo, Olympic city

Tokyo-Olympic-city

The Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games will be held in Tokyo from 24 July to 9 August 2020.

This international event will, therefore, highlight the modern capital of Japan and in particular the numerous infrastructures built for the occasion.

The venues will be divided into two zones: Legacy (in memory of the 1964 Summer Olympics) and Tokyo Bay. If you are still hesitating, now is the time to go to Tokyo!

Xi'an, Chinese culture and tradition

Xi'an

Capital of Shaanxi province in China, Xi'an is home to an exceptional site, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Buried Army.

These 8,000 terracotta warriors discovered in 1974 date back to 210 BC and are worth the trip on their own as they are so impressively realistic.

One also goes to Xi'an to discover its numerous imperial remains and its night markets where the local gastronomy is highlighted.

Turin, capital of cinema

Turin

It would be wrong to miss the capital of Piedmont this year! In addition to its monumental Mole Antonelliana, Turin is known for its film museum

In 2020, it celebrates its twentieth anniversary and on this occasion, the city was elected capital of cinema.

Throughout the year, and especially during the summer, numerous initiatives will be organized to showcase the 7th art: previews, concerts of soundtracks from famous films...

Bilbao, culture, and football

Bilbao

Bilbao will host four matches during Euro 2020, including the much-anticipated Round of 16 on 28 June.

Football fans will be following the event closely, as it is a great opportunity for the city to showcase its historical and cultural heritage.

Bilbao is particularly renowned for its Guggenheim Museum with its unique architecture, which energized the city when it opened. Visit the capital of the Spanish Basque Country, a great destination for a city break!
